Our work would not be possible without the dedicated work of all of our Assistant Public Defenders. The majority of the attorneys at our office have more than five years of experience in criminal defense work. Senior attorneys provide support through mentoring, training, and case collaboration. Additionally, our office is one of only five in Florida with an in-house appellate division. Our trial attorneys have access to appellate attorneys with decades of experience who offer valuable knowledge of legal issues. Below is a large sample from among our Assistant Public Defenders.
Ingrid Abello earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, where she double majored in Criminology and Psychology. She received her J.D. from St. Thomas University School of Law. Ingrid has experience defending clients in the Misdemeanor, Juvenile, and Felony divisions. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys spending time with her family.
Kaisha Ahye is a St. Thomas University College of Law graduate who comes to us with “an interest in defense litigation.” In law school, she interned at PD-19 and at the Immigration Clinic where she represented noncitizens in Immigration Court. Prior to law school, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies and Political Science and a certificate to Teach English as a Second Language from Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. She then went on to earn a Master of Arts from FIU in International Relations. She spent three years as an English as Second Language teacher.
Anderson is an appellate lawyer at PD-15 who worked initially for PD-15 for 34 years during which time – between 1985 and 2018 – he won numerous cases at the Fourth District Court of Appeal. In 2010, the Daily Business Review named him as “Most Effective Appellate Lawyer.” He rejoined the appellate division in 2023 where he continues to try appellate cases, mentor and advise new hires, and serve as an extraordinary sounding board for his fellow Assistant Public Defenders and attorney for his clients. Jeff earned his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Florida Atlantic University in Geography, Program of Urban and Regional Planning and then earned his Juris Doctor from Florida State University in April 1983. Admitted to The Florida Bar in 1983. Jeff first interned at PD-15 over the summer of 1982.
Manuel Arrieta earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, his master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University, and his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. During law school, Manuel worked as an investigator with the Public Defender’s Office. He began his criminal defense career in Circuit 19, where he tried misdemeanor and felony cases and appeared before judges in St. Lucie and Okeechobee Counties. He later continued his work as an Assistant Public Defender in Palm Beach County here in Palm Beach- Circuit 15, handling a wide range of criminal matters. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Manuel has experience representing English and Spanish speaking clients and those with both county and felony charges. He is committed to providing diligent, strategic, and client-centered representation. Outside of his legal practice, Manuel enjoys spending time with his family, maintaining an active lifestyle, and being involved in his community.
Luis Asprino earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. Luis has practiced in both the misdemeanor and felony divisions, including the Serious Crimes Felony Division. During his tenure in the Public Defender’s Office he has tried 46 jury trials to verdict, serving as lead counsel in half of them. Currently, he serves as Senior Counsel in a felony courtroom where he oversees and supports junior felony attorneys providing mentorship, case strategy input, and courtroom guidance. Outside of the courtroom, Luis enjoys reading, playing video games, and exploring the many nature preserves in Palm Beach County.
Angela Audie graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from Loyola University of Chicago and a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law. In law school, she was a Summer Public Interest Fellow at the Miami-Dade Public Defender's Office and a HOPE Public Interest Fellow with Legal Services of Northern California. Angie has served as a PD-15 trial attorney practicing in both the County Division and Circuit Criminal Division. She has conducted more than 15 jury trials involving both misdemeanor and felony charges. A South Florida native from Miami, Angie enjoys spending time with family and friends, doing yoga, and hanging out with her dog Mia.
Alexis Bauman attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate and graduate studies. She earned her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in D.C. She then spent 3 years clerking for the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. Alexis is currently an assistant public defender in PD-15's County Division. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé and her dog and cheering on the Miami Dolphins.
earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Mathematics from Florida Atlantic University and her JD from Nova Southeastern University. In law school, Roselandie was involved in her school’s Black Law Student Association, trial association, and the Journal of International Law and Comparative Studies. Roselandie also interned at PD-15 before graduating from law school.
Danielle Berkowitz graduated in 2024 from the University of Miami School of Law and in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communications from Tulane University in New Orleans. During law school, she worked at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, the MacArthur Justice Center in New Orleans, the Florida Third District Court of Appeal, and the Juvenile Law Center in Philadelphia. Her intent in studying law was “to pursue a career as an assistant public defender…[given] the vast differences in the treatment of certain individuals based on race, gender, and socioeconomic status.” Danielle possesses County, Juvenile, and Felony experience.
Christina Black earned her Law School degree Cum Laude from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law and her undergraduate degree in Comparative Religious Studies Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida. A Native of South Florida, Christina worked for the Palm Beach County School District from 2020 – 2025 as an AP Biology and IB Biology teacher at William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. There she served as the Assistant Girl’s Weightlifting Coach at Dwyer High School for two years. Meanwhile, during her down time, Christina is an avid supporter of the English Premier League and Manchester United. Go Reds!
Lily Boehmer earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Kent State University in Ohio and her J.D. from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. During law school, Lily worked at Office of the Public Defender in Columbus, the Bronx Defenders as a Criminal Defense Practice Legal Intern, the Federal Public Defender Office for the Southern District of Ohio in the Capital Habeas Unit, and the Franklin County Public Defender in Columbus as a Municipal Law Clerk/Common Pleas Extern. Lily has served as a PD-15 trial attorney, practicing in both misdemeanor and felony divisions, including the Serious Crimes Felony Division.
Raymon Burns attended Florida Atlantic University as an undergraduate and Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law for law school. Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked in retail as a sales manager. Raymon works in the Felony Division at PD-15. When not at work, Raymon is a dedicated husband and father, attends church, and enjoys playing pool/billiards, instruments, and chess. As a football enthusiast, he is a 49ers fan and FSU college football fan.
Timothy Caplan joins PD-15 from the Roger Williams University School of Law where he graduated in 2024 magna cum laude He is also a former participant in the RWU Alternative Spring Break program at PD-15. He earned his 2019 undergraduate degree from Rhode Island College in Communications with a minor in Political Science. His law school experience included a summer at the Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office, a semester at his law school’s criminal defense clinic, and one year at a criminal defense firm. He was also an active member of his school’s Criminal Law Society and Jewish law Students Association. Tim’s “belief [is] that the greatest aspect of American society is the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty,” and was inspired to pursue this career by the work of great criminal defense attorneys like John Adams and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Tim’s favorite hobbies include boxing, freestyle wrestling, going to the beach, and spending time with his cat Matzah.
Diahanne Chester earned her bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Central Florida and her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. Diahanne has worked in a small litigation firm and at PD-15. Currently assigned to PD-15's Juvenile Division and County Court/Misdemeanor Division in the South County Courthouse, Diahanne has worked in a variety of County Court divisions and felony divisions. In her free time, Diahanne enjoys shopping, spending time with her family, and baking vegan desserts.
Jessica Crockett graduated from the University of Florida with a dual degree in sociology and criminology. She received her J.D. from Howard University School of Law. During law school, she worked as a law clerk in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Civil Rights division. Jessica also worked as intern at the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama. At PD15, she has practiced in county, felony, forensics, serious crimes, and major crimes divisions.
graduated from Florida Atlantic University with her B.A. in English (magna cum laude) and Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law with her J.D. in 2015 (magna cum laude). While at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law, Michelle served as a Bilingual Editor in her law school journal, was the recipient of five Book Awards including Criminal Procedure and Evidence, and served as a research assistant. Prior to joining PD-15, Michelle began her legal career as a personal injury attorney where she represented both Plaintiff and Defense. Additionally, she previously served as an Associate Director and Adjunct Professor at NSU Law and UF Law. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, watching anime, and painting.
earned his undergraduate degree in biophysics and worked in Information Technology before earning his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law. Currently a resource director in PD-15's county court division, Michael has also tried many serious and high profile cases in the Serious Crimes division and worked as a forensic specialist. He enjoys traveling, fishing, asserting constitutional rights, and all things ocean-related. A native Midwesterner, he is still adapting to Florida's 9-month summers.
Rebecca Dugini graduated from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Miami. During law school, Rebecca worked at the Innocence Project, interned at PD-15, and was a student attorney in the law school’s Criminal Defense Clinic. Born and raised in Italy, Rebecca speaks Italian and Spanish fluently. Rebecca loves travelling and food, is a big women’s basketball fan, and when not at work can be found swimming at the beach.
Megan Eaton earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and her J.D. from Regent University School of Law. Having served at PD15 since 2007, she has practiced in the county, felony, juvenile, serious crimes, and major crimes divisions. She served as an Ambassador for Racial Justice for 2022 with the Georgetown University Law Center’s Juvenile Justice Initiative and the Gault Center. In her free time, she reads, writes about, and searches for excellent books.
is a 2024 University of Miami School of Law graduate and a 2019 Florida Gulf Coast University Philosophy graduate. Austin is one of three incoming August PD-15 class members who will join the Appeals Division. During law school, Austin served as a law clerk with the Alaska Legal Drafting in Anchorage, a legal intern with the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, a law clerk with a Miami law firm, a legal intern with Capital Collateral Regional Counsel-South, and a legal intern with the Federal Public Defender-Capital Habeas Unit. He says, “my passion for public defense and commitment to justice drives my desire to transition into appellate work.”
has a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and his J.D. from the Florida State University College of Law. Prior to joining the PD-15, Ben clerked for the Honorable Robert M. Gross at the Fourth District Court of Appeal in West Palm Beach. As an appellate attorney, Ben has served as the president of the Palm Beach Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the chair of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers' amicus curiae committee, a board member of the Craig S. Barnard American Inn of Court, and a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association's appellate practice committee. Outside of work, Ben has two cats (Babs and Sonia) and is an avid sports fan, particularly of the Chicago Cubs. Go Cubs!
earned her law degree at the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law and attended the University of Florida for her Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Criminology. In law school, she was on the Dean’s lists multiple semesters, participated on the Moot Court Team, and received the Book Award in Property. In her spare time, she likes reading and playing video games.
graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Lynn University. After graduating, he spent a year engaged in community development work with a focus on providing resources for underserved communities. He then pursued a Master’s in Social Work with a focus on serving low-income communities and individuals experiencing homelessness. He then went on to obtain a J.D. from the University of Miami before focusing on practice areas involving mental health and substance abuse. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, and playing chess.
is a double gator having earned her J.D. and Bachelor of the Arts in International Relations from the University of Florida. While in law school, Julie was on the executive board of the American Constitutional Society and was a Certified Legal Intern at the Public Defender’s Office of the 8th Judicial Circuit. From Boca Raton, FL, Julie and joys kayaking, gardening, and spending time with her dog, Finn.
graduated in 2024 from Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh, PA and earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. After having worked for 10 years as a labor union organizer and union steward, he pursued law and says he “spent my time in law school advocating for indigent clients faced with the inherent stigma and heavy burden of criminal indictment.” He also spent two summers at the Allegheny County Office of the Public Defender. Mikel is driven to public defense by the “myriad struggles faced by underrepresented people and the critical need for public interest work.”
earned her Bachelor of Arts in history from Georgetown University, a Master of Arts in theology from Loyola University in Chicago, and a J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Prior to joining the office, she litigated criminal appeals on behalf defendants represented by the Office of the State Appellate Defender in Chicago. She now specializes in juvenile law and is a recipient of the Palm Beach County Bar Association's juvenile delinquency advocate of the year award.
received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her J.D. from New York University. Before joining PD-15, she clerked for Justice Barbara Pariente at the Florida Supreme Court. Prior to attending law school, she worked for Merrill Lynch. Erika is a member of PD-15's appeals team. Outside of work, she spends time enjoying running and trying new plant-based recipes.
Milan Gacioch earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center where she worked as a Student Attorney in the Criminal Defense and Prisoner Advocacy Clinic, representing clients in D.C. Superior Court as well as in front of the U.S. Parole Commission. Additionally, Milan taught legal writing classes at Jessup Correctional Institution in Maryland and interned at the Public Defender Service for D.C., the Arlington Public Defender, and the Military Commissions Defense Organization. Before law school, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business and a minor in Justice Studies from Arizona State University online while training and working as a professional dancer in New York City. Beyond dancing, Milan loves to travel, spend time with family, and root for her hometown Buffalo Bills.

earned her BA degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her JD and L.L.M from Duke University. She was sworn into The Florida Bar in December of 2012. She has worked at the Florida Guardian Ad Litem Program here in West Palm Beach and the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County. She has also worked at ChildNet in Fort Lauderdale.
Ethan Goldberg is a 2024 J.D. and LLM in International Law graduate of the University of Miami School of Law and a 2020 graduate of Indiana University. In law school, Ethan was an editor and symposium chair for the Race and Social Justice Law Review. Ethan is an attorney in the appellate division. Prior to working for PD-15, he gained an interest in pursuing criminal and appellate law through internships at Florida’s Third District Court of Appeal, The Florida Office of the Attorney General, and a Federal Magistrate Judge.
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He then worked as at a San Francisco law firm for five years before returning to school and earning his J.D. from Florida State University College of Law. Prior to joining PD-15, he worked for the Public Defender of Brevard County, 18th Judicial Circuit on misdemeanor and juvenile cases. At PD-15, Sheldon has worked on cases ranging from misdemeanors to felony caseloads, including plea negotiations, jury trials, and at various times in the satellite office of Belle Glade representing clients in the western community of Palm Beach County. His hobbies include boxing, practicing martial arts, playing the electric bass (very poorly according to him), and volunteering as a poll watcher for various elections.
was born and raised in Tampa Bay. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Science from the University of Florida and her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law. During her time in law school, she externed at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). When she is not in the PD-15 office, she enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
attended Rockland Community College and Mercy College for undergrad, where he majored in accounting. He then earned his J.D. from Cardozo School of Law. While at Cardozo, Abe was heavily involved in the Unemployment Action Center and Suspension Representation Project. He interned/externed/completed clinics at the public defender’s office covering Atlantic County, NJ; Appellate Advocates; the New Jersey federal public defender’s office; the NYC Legal Aid Society’s Digital Forensics Unit; Legal Aid’s Staten Island Trial Office; and Legal Aid’s Manhattan Trial Office. Abe is a very big Yankees and Rangers fan (although he unabashedly jumped on the Panthers’ bandwagon last year).
returns to Florida after earning his 2024 law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a Finance focus from the University of Central Florida. Prior to law school, Jared says, “I worked multiple summers at a Florida based criminal defense firm where my passion for the law grew substantially. Throughout law school, I have continued to hone in on this passion for criminal law.” During law school, Jared worked in a District Attorney’s Office in Alamance, North Carolina and studied in Spain.
Cara Hytinen graduated with a double major in psychology and sociology from the University of Michigan and she holds a J.D. from Pennsylvania State University College of Law. She holds licenses to practice in the State of Florida and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. At PD-15, Cara has worked on both misdemeanor and felony cases. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and playing video games.
Borina Jean is a native of Palm Beach County. She completed her undergraduate education at Florida Atlantic University, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a minor in philosophy. Before law school, she worked at a non-profit where she worked with at risk youth suffering from mental health issues. She earned her law degree at the University of Miami School of Law. During her free time, she likes to read, sleep, and spend time with her family.
Lynn Jia earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina and her J.D. from the University of Washington. While in law school, she was a two-time summer associate at an AmLaw Top 100 Law firm and clerked for the criminal and civil rights divisions of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington. In her free time, she enjoys surfing, yoga and spending time with her cats.
earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida and her J.D. from Florida A&M University's College of Law. She started her work with PD-15 as an Intern-Investigator, then as a staff investigator, and, before earning her J.D., as a Felony Investigator. Ashley currently works in PD-15 as a Felony Assistant Public Defender. When not at work, she enjoys fishing and spending time with friends and family.
Devin Johnson attended Sewanee: The University of the South for her undergraduate studies. Prior to earning her J.D. from Tulane University, she spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer. At PD-15, she has experience in the misdemeanor, juvenile, felony, serious crimes, and appellate divisions. She enjoys spending time with her two dogs and likes learning, laughing, and the great outdoors.
Maurissa Jones earned her undergraduate degree from Goucher College and her J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law. In between undergraduate and law school studies, she served two terms in AmeriCorps and worked at multiple nonprofit organizations in Washington, DC. Since joining the PD-15 family, Maurissa has represented adult and juvenile clients through all facets of litigation in both County and Circuit Court. She represented clients in the Serious Crimes Division, the Forensics Division, and served as Resource Director in both the County and Felony Divisions. Maurissa is an avid reader and pet lover.
Mason Kanigowski graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and earned a J.D. from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law. In law school, Mason was an editor for the University of Florida Journal of Law and Public Policy and interned for the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel for the 1st and 2nd Regions of Florida. Outside of work, Mason enjoys reading, watching movies, going to the gym, and being in nature.
David Karpay studied Philosophy as an undergraduate at Goucher College in Maryland and then earned his J.D. from Maryland Carey School of Law. Born and raised in Baltimore City, with a couple of years spent in Florida, David’s law career follows his parents’ careers who are both lawyers who studied and met at UFL. In law school, David competed on the Thurgood Marshal Trial Team where he discovered a passion for criminal defense. He represented misdemeanor clients as a student attorney in the Criminal Defense Clinic. Before studying law, David taught English in Taiwan, China, and Spain; and worked at renewable energy and software companies. After graduating law school in May, David moved down to Palm Beach County with his son and spouse, who grew up here. When he is not trudging through WestLaw, he enjoys cycling, watching Lev grow up, and losing to Barrie in Bananagrams.

Prior to joining PD-15, he interned at the Palm Beach State Attorney's Office. At PD-15, Daniel works in the Felony Division as a division lead.
Sue-Ellen Kenny joined the PD-15 appellate team after previously working in state, nonprofit, and private sector attorney roles. She brings a wealth of experience to the Appeals Division as she has served as the attorney of record in more than 500 Florida and Federal opinions and presented approximately 50 Oral Arguments before the Florida Supreme Court, Florida Fourth District Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Sue-Ellen has been a Florida Bar member since 1992 following her graduation from graduated Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law in 1992.
Crystal Kim graduated with a law degree from Georgetown University where she was a Student Attorney in the Criminal Defense and Prisoner Advocacy Clinic. She has bachelor’s degrees in psychology and anthropology from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining PD-15, Crystal interned at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia.
Shawnee Lawrence earned her undergraduate degree from Howard University and her J.D. from Texas Southern University. Prior to joining PD-15, she worked as an attorney in construction and civil Litigation. Shawnee has practice in county, felony, juvenile and mental health divisions. She has also handled serious felony cases. In her spare time, she enjoys participating in her church, reading, baking and traveling.
Ian Lemonious was born and raised in Westchester New York where he earned his undergraduate degree. He graduated with his J.D. from St. Thomas School of Law. At PD-15, Ian is an attorney in the Major Crimes Division handling capital felonies.
Thomas Leonis a 2025 graduate of FIU’s College of Law and a 2021 University of Central Florida Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance graduate. Thomas plays multiple instruments. Prior to coming to PD-15, Thomas spent time as a freelance musician, taught music students, and worked as a law clerk at the Balanced Justice Project.
Kebin Lopez grew up in South Carolina and attended Armstrong State University in Savannah Georgia. He then attended the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law for law school. While in law school, Kebin interned at the Augusta Georgia Public Defender’s Office as well as the Savannah Chatham County Public Defender’s Office. After graduating law school, Kebin worked at the 4th Circuit Public Defender’s Office in Jacksonville for three years representing clients in both misdemeanors and felonies. Outside of work, Kebin watches European soccer and college football. Kebin also enjoys spending time with his wife and going on long walks with Ella—their cute Shiba Inu.
earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Florida State University and her J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. Prior to joining PD-15, Alexandra practiced law under supervision as a Student Practitioner in the Criminal Defense Clinic of her law school, served as an intern at the Exoneration Initiative, and worked at a private Criminal Defense Firm in Tallahassee. She serves at PD-15 in the County Court/Misdemeanor Division. When not at work, Alexandra loves spending time with her family, traveling to new places, and playing with her family's Golden doodle puppy, Nola.
Dalton Maldonado is an Assistant Public Defender in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, where he has represented clients in misdemeanor, domestic violence, felony, and Serious Crimes divisions. He earned his B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisville and his J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law. During law school, he interned with Congressman David Cicilline, the Rhode Island Center for Justice, and worked on Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) matters. A native of Beaver, Kentucky, also known as Mud Creek, Dalton was named to the Out100 list of influential people in America in 2015, recognized as Outsports Person of the Year, and received the Fairness Award in Kentucky.
Logan Mohs graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy before attending Duke University School of Law for his J.D. He holds licenses to practice law throughout Florida and in the United States Supreme Court. Prior to coming to PD-15, Logan clerked for the Honorable Judge Alan O. Forst on the Fourth District Court of Appeal. With the office, he has handled both trials and appeals, including death penalty litigation in the Florida Supreme Court. He frequently works as a mentor/supervisor for new attorneys and interns. Logan’s practice spans the criminal gamut from misdemeanor trespass cases through first-degree murders, and he maintains an academic interest in civil practice and out-of-state legal issues. Outside of work, Logan hosts a weekly pub trivia contest with his wife and competes in multiple online trivia leagues.
Kieran Mundt worked for the Cook County Sheriff's Office for 30 years, retiring as a superintendent in 2023. While at the office, he received his degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia College of Missouri and his JD from John Marshall Law School in Chicago. After moving to Florida in 2023, Kieran spent almost two years in the 17th Circuit State Attorney Office working in Juvenile and County Court before joining the 15th Circuit Public Defender's Office in November of 2025. He is also an US Army Reserve veteran and former paratrooper.
Tyler Obenauf received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science and History from the State University of New York College at Oneonta, graduating cum laude, and his J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law (formerly Franklin Pierce Law Center). As an undergraduate, he was a Rule 36 Student Attorney in the school’s Criminal Practice Clinic representing clients charged with misdemeanor offenses and was active in the school’s Public Interest Coalition. A criminal defense attorney, Tyler has represented clients in PD-15’s Juvenile, County Court/Misdemeanor, Felony and Serious Crimes Trial divisions and has tried more than 50 jury trials to verdict. Currently assigned to Gun Club, Tyler represents clients at First Appearances and with misdemeanor offenses at Gun Club. In his spare time, Tyler enjoys reading and watching TV.
earned her law degree from Stetson University, College of Law where she received three trial advocacy awards, served as a teaching assistant in Evidence and Trial Advocacy, participated on trial team, and interned as a Certified Legal Intern with the Public Defender’s Office, 6th Judicial Circuit. When on trial team, she placed in different competitions as quarter-finalist, semi-finalist, finalist, and National Champion. Yesenia studied International Business and Management and studied overseas while an undergraduate at the University of Tampa. Between her undergraduate and law school studies, she worked at a criminal defense law firm. When not at work, she enjoys traveling, exercising, watching movies and Television series, and spending time with friends and family.
Taylor Overman graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and from Boston College Law School with her J.D. Taylor has been an assistant public defender at the office for over 11 years. She has practiced in the county, felony, and juveniles divisions. In her free time, Taylor enjoys doing yoga, taking care of her many house plants, and eating spicy food.
comes to PD-15 after serving as a law clerk/judicial assistant for the Honorable Judge Melanie G. May at the Fourth District Court of Appeal. Barred in the State of Florida in 2022, Ben earned his law degree in 2022 from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law. Benjamin possesses a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from FAU.
Kelly Parker earned her undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University and her J.D. from Florida International School of Law. Following law school, Kelly joined PD-15 where she serves as an attorney in the Mental Health Division, serves in the misdemeanor service-based and competency mental health courtroom, and represents clients who are under involuntary placement at a Baker Act facility (when clients are considered to be mentally ill and sent – often involuntarily – to an approved mental health facility). Kelly represents PD-15 clients at their involuntary placement hearings at Baker Act hospitals. Her out of work interest focus on her family, traveling, and hiking.
earned his undergraduate degree from Cal State Bernardino (his Yale) after attending, and being asked to leave, most of San Bernardino's high schools and after attending San Bernardino Valley College (his Harvard). He earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School in New Orleans. Paul has been in PD-15's Appellate Division since 1990. He likes to read and use humor—invoking a quote from writer Joan Didion, who said October in San Bernardino, California, was the “season of suicide, divorce, and prickly dread.” His claim to fame is that he was born in San Bernardino in October.
graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Florida and with his J.D. from the University of Florida's Levin College of Law. Robert joined PD-15 right out of law school. He works in the Appellate Division here, but also possesses experience as a trial attorney in both county and circuit court. Robert enjoys playing soccer, freediving, and hearing the clerk say “not guilty.”
Harris Printz attended the State University of New York (SUNY) Binghamton for his undergraduate degree and the University of Miami for his law degree. While attending law school, he interned at the Miami Public Defender’s Office where he found his passion for criminal defense work. He has worked in a wide variety of divisions at this office – misdemeanors, felonies, serious crimes, and Gun Club. He enjoys reading and traveling with his family.
earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Florida Atlantic University and her J.D. from Barry University School of Law. She served as a Certified Legal Intern as part of FAU’s Juvenile Defense Clinic during law school and as a law clerk for a criminal defense firm. Between her undergraduate and law school studies, she worked as a paralegal at a law firm. As an undergraduate, Aparna interned in Ft. Lauderdale with both the Public Defender and Attorney General’s offices. She enjoys spending time with family, reading, and traveling.
Obtained a criminal justice degree from Florida Atlantic University and earned her law degree from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. Johanna worked at a technology company as a contract manager before joining the PD-15 family. Having worked at PD-15 in both felonies and misdemeanors, Johanna currently specializes in Driver’s License Restoration. She is married and loves to travel and garden.
Kameron Roan received his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi and his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Having practiced law since 2023, and worked as a paralegal, Kameron has represented clients and supported their legal defense in hundreds of civil sector cases. While in law school, Kameron participated in a clinic with the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office and represented clients under attorney supervision, and says he has always wanted to become a defense attorney. Passionate about ensuring that every individual receives fair representation and that justice is served, Kameron has earned a reputation for his professionalism and client advocacy.
Adam Rosenberg graduated from Loyola New Orleans College of Law in 2020 and from The University of Alabama in 2016 with a B.A. in Political Science. While at Alabama, he was a member of Sigma Pi's Theta-Omicron chapter. Before joining PD-15, Adam served as an Assistant Public Defender in Florida's Twentieth Circuit for four years. During his tenure at PD-20, he represented clients in misdemeanor, juvenile, and felony divisions. A passionate advocate for equal justice, Adam is dedicated to defending the rights of the marginalized and underserved. He is also an avid sports fan, cheering on his alma mater, the Alabama Crimson Tide, in all sports but especially football and basketball (Roll Tide!). Adam is also a fan of the New York Jets and the San Francisco Giants.
Sydney Sauer attended and played soccer at Kennesaw State University, where her undergraduate studies focused on political science and psychology. There she also participated in mock trial and was on the Athletic Honor Roll. She then attended Duquesne University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. In law school, she worked as a certified Legal Intern at the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office and as a Judicial Intern at the United States District Court Middle District of Florida. Originally from Winter Springs, Florida, Sydney enjoys playing pickup soccer and going to the beach.
Greta Schultz earned her law degree from the University of Miami School of Law where she was a Dean’s Merit Scholar. During law school, she participated in the criminal law society. She also worked as a legal intern at the Federal Public Defender’s Office, Southern District of Florida, at the ACLU of Florida, and at a private firm; as a Certified Legal Intern at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office; and as Co-Chair of the law school’s Public Interest Leadership Board / Vice President of Criminal Law Society. Prior to law school, Greta attended the University of Florida where she earned her Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude, in Political Science and International Studies. Born and raised in Boca Raton, Greta’s hobbies include paddle boarding, crochet, and reading.
Madeleine Schwarte graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology, where she also served as President of the Criminal Justice Society. She went on to receive her J.D. at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. While in law school, Madeleine participated in a Wrongful Convictions clinic, served on the Journal of Law and Public Policy, and was a Certified Legal Intern at the Public Defender’s Office of the 8th Judicial Circuit. After law school, she spent a brief time working at the Public Defender’s Office of the 19th Judicial Circuit where she gained experience in juvenile and misdemeanor court. Madeleine enjoys paddle boarding, running, yoga, chess, and spending time with her dog, Leo.
Craig Severson is a long-time Palm Beach County resident who his Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Palm Beach State College and his Masters of Business Administration at Nova Southeastern. After working for several years in the entertainment and theme park industries, Craig attended Barry Law in Orlando at night, while working at Morgan and Morgan in the Social Security Department. Outside of PD-15, Craig likes spending time outdoors and trying to play guitar. His aim is to get the best results for clients.
Siobhan Helene Shea returned to the PD-15 Appellate Division in 2024. Shea previously ran a successful
statewide appellate practice, Sheappeals, in Palm Beach, Florida for over twenty years. Shea has served
as the Chair of the Appellate Practice Section of the Florida Bar, as Chair of the Appellate Court Rules
Committee of the Florida Bar, as President of the Statewide Florida Association for Women Lawyers, and
as President of the Palm Beach County Chapter of FAWL. Shea has also served on the Florida Rules of
General Practice and Judicial Administration, on the Florida Bar Diversity and Inclusion Committee
Executive Council, and as an Honorary Board Member Equal Opportunities Section of the Florida Bar. She
also served on the American Bar Association Council of Appellate Lawyers Executive Board, on the ABA
CAL Appellate Rules Committee, and as an Emeritus Member of the Craig S. Barnard American Inns of
Court. Shea is a Fourth District Court of Appeal Historical Society Founding Executive Board Member. Shea
is the recipient of numerous significant awards including the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association
Human Rights Award; the Appellate Practice Section of the Florida Bar's Annual Pro Bono Award; the
Florida Bar President's Pro Bono Service Award; and the Palm Beach County Women’s Chamber of
Commerce Giraffe Award. She has also authored key manuals on appellate practice and journals on
significant cases.
Shea graduated with honors from the University of Miami School of Law. Shea’s first employment out of
law school was as an associate to Joseph Beeler, a federal white-collar criminal appellate lawyer in Miami.
Shea also served Of Counsel in HRC v. Baker, a case that went to the United States Court of Appeals
Eleventh Circuit twice en banc in which then Solicitor General Kenneth Starr represented the United
States, and which was denied petition for writ of certiorari in the United States Supreme Court.
Shelby Smith obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Missouri and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. There Shelby was a student attorney with the Criminal Justice Clinic representing D.C. residents charged with misdemeanors, as well as people facing parole violations before the US Parole Commission. During law school, she also interned with judges in federal and state courts. At PD-15, Shelby has served in the County Court Division, Juvenile Division and Felony Division. She currently works in the Serious Crimes Division. In her free time, Shelby enjoys traveling with her husband, cooking and hanging out with her dogs.

received a Bachelor's degree from Tufts University, a Master's degree from New York University, and her J.D. from the University of Miami. Natalie has practiced as a PD-15 attorney her entire legal career—working in the Appellate, Domestic, Misdemeanor, Felony, Juvenile and Mental Health divisions of the office. She is currently the supervisor at the Gun Club branch office where she handles first appearances and arraignments at the Gun Club and North County courthouses. Natalie holds licenses to practice law in Florida and Washington States. In her free time, she enjoys exercising, vacationing, and spending time with her family.
Perry E. Thurston, Jr., a SE Florida native, received his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College and his J.D. from the University of Miami’s School of Law. Before joining PD-15, he worked both in private practice, specializing in Criminal Defense and Public Finance, and for the Broward County Public Defender’s Office. He is a former Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 94 from 2006 to 2014 and serving as Minority Leader in 2014. A leading proponent for Restoration of Civil Rights Legislation, Perry became a member of the Florida State Senate, representing District 33 between 2016 and 2022, and serving as Democratic leader-designate.
Raquel Tortora received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida and her J.D. from The George Washington University. She has been with PD-15 for her entire career and has worked as a trial attorney in the misdemeanor, felony, major crimes, and forensic science divisions. Outside of the office, she enjoys camping, collecting vinyl records, and spending time with her family.

In 2021, he earned two Bachelor of Arts’ degrees from FAU—one in Political Science and one in Criminal Justice. During law school, Elijah interned twice with PD-15 – once as a Legal Intern and once as a Certified Legal Intern – and also worked as a Legal Intern for a private law office in Wellington. He was a Student Clinician at the Virgil Hawkins Immigration Clinic and a General Editor at the Florida Journal of International Law. Elijah is conversant in Spanish.
completed his undergraduate work at the University of Florida and earned his J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. While an undergraduate, Daniel was a volunteer in the Public Defender's Office assisting attorneys and investigators at arraignments and first appearances. He also served as a Certified Legal Intern and began trying jury trials during his last semester of law school. Since law school, Daniel has worked at PD-15 except during a 15-month period during which he practiced workers compensation insurance defense. Currently assigned to the South County Courthouse, Daniel has spent time in the Misdemeanor, Felony, and Juvenile divisions. He enjoys spending time with his family cheering on the Florida Gators Football team.
received his undergraduate degree in Political Science –Patrick Walsh with a minor in Philosophy and in Peace, Conflict, and Coexistence studies – from Brandeis University and his J.D. from New York University School of Law. Prior to law school, Aaron worked in social justice, public interest, and education roles. The grandson of a Holocaust survivor, Aaron spent time studying in Jerusalem as a Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies' student and a Dorot Foundation in Israel Fellow—engaging with Holocaust survivors as well as Israel and West Bank peacebuilding activities. In law school, he was an extern at the Brooklyn Defender Services and the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama; and interned in the Capital Habeas Unit of the Federal Community Defender Office, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and at the Georgia Justice Project. Also in law school, Aaron participated in a variety of clinics and projects, and served as an editor on the N.Y.U. Review of Law and Social Change. Outside of work, Aaron likes running, swimming laps, and boxing training. He is also a mindfulness meditation practitioner and involved in Jewish communal life.

Jerry has lived in South Florida for most of his life—since 1972. Before joining the PD-15 family, Jerry was in private practice for 10 years in civil courts. He is a member of the Florida Bar, United States District Court Southern District of Florida and United States Supreme Court. When not at PD-15, Jerry enjoys golf, racing, travelling, and cooking.
Jerry Williams earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida and his J.D. from St. Thomas University College of Law. In his free time, he enjoys Basketball, football, and dominating the PD-15 fantasy football league. Jerry is also our In-house DJ… MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE.

Devonte Wilson obtained an undergraduate criminal justice degree from the University of West Florida, a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from the University of West Georgia, and his law degree from North Carolina Central University. Devonte worked in higher education before joining the PD-15 family. During his time in law school, he won several trial advocacy competitions including the Inaugural CC Buddy Malone competition during his tenure as the President of the Trial Advocacy Board. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida. Devonte enjoys live entertainment in his free time.
earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Florida Atlantic University and her J.D. from Florida International University College of Law. Though she was born in Australia, Rebekah grew up in Broward County. In law school, she was a member of FIU’s Trial Team, and prior to joining PD-15, she interned at PD-17 and PD-11 as a Certified Legal Intern. In her free time, she enjoys reading.
Michael Work studied Education and Spanish at Clemson University, then moved to California, where he obtained advanced degrees from Fuller Seminary and worked in educational technology. After moving to Korea, where he taught college-level courses in religion and culture, he returned to the USA for law school. Michael completed his J.D. at Northwestern University School of Law and then joined PD-15 where he has tried more than 50 cases to jury verdicts, which have included more than 20 felonies where he was lead counsel, among them homicide and sexual battery cases. He has worked in the Major Crimes, Serious Crimes, Forensic Litigation, Felony, and County court divisions. He is a member of the board of the directors for the New Voices Project, an organization dedicated to using the arts to increase awareness of the Holocaust and the moral lessons for all humanity, and served as the president of the Palm Beach Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers during 2025 and 2026. Michael spends his remaining free time with his family and pets, and unwinds by enjoying Dodger baseball and cheering on Clemson football.
